Earlier this month, dentists around the country marked Sedation Safety Week. You probably didn’t know that such a week existed. However, you should take comfort in knowing that every year since 2009, dentists and their teams review safety procedures, advance the practice of sedation dentistry and hone their own skills.
Participating dentists reviewed the steps that every dentist administering sedation must follow to ensure patient safety, discussed research showing the need for sedation dentistry and discussed ways to keep sedation dentistry accessible and affordable for all patients.
It is estimated that nearly 92 million Americans don’t receive the dental care they need, simply due to a fear of the dentist. Like the many other dentists who took part in Sedation Safety Week, Dr. Richard Champagne understands that sedation dentistry is key to helping these patients get the dental care that they need and deserve. And, most supremely, he understands the importance of patient safety throughout all procedures.
Dr. Champagne has completed extensive training and continuing education courses through the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, an organization founded by Dr. Michael Silverman, co-founder of Sedation Safety Week. He is committed to offering the very best dental care in a relaxing, supportive and safe environment, and he has helped hundreds of patients overcome their dental anxieties.
Dr. Champagne is pleased to offer a number of safe sedation options to his patients, including:
- Oral Conscious Sedation: This convenient therapy is administered by an authorized dentist. You simply take relaxation medication 30-60 minutes prior to your appointment and continue to take additional medication throughout the procedure to ensure that you maintain a comfortable level of sedation. Many patients who opt for oral conscious sedation enter a sleep-like state during their treatment.
- Nitrous Relaxing Gas: Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide has been used for many years to help patients relax during their procedure. You are awake for the treatment, yet you will feel completely relaxed.
- General Anesthesis IV Sedation: For those patients who experience extreme fear, Dr. Champagne is able to offer IV sedation. This is different than conscious sedation, however. Patients who receive general anesthesia sedation are asleep throughout the procedure and unaware of their surroundings, because they enter a deeply relaxed and care-free state.
In addition to these sedation techniques, Champagne Smiles offers paraffin wax treatments, massage mats, hot cloth towels, satellite radio, and more. So what are you waiting for?
