Oral Exams and Dental Cleanings

An oral exam and dental cleaning can go a very long way to catching problems early and maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Our skilled dental hygienists will examine the inside of your mouth and, if there are any issues, our dentist will recommend a treatment plan that can prevent them from becoming worse. Your teeth will also be thoroughly cleaned with professional techniques designed to help keep away gum disease and decay. A professional dental cleaning at Champagne Smiles also includes a blood pressure screening, oral hygiene instruction, oral cancer screening, computerized perio-charting, a complete exam, laser bacterial reduction (if needed) and a dental gift bag filled with tools to help the overall success of your dental health (to take home at the end of your appointment).

Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene can mean the difference between healthy teeth and gums or serious dental problems. We believe in providing exceptional patient education for our guests at Champagne Smiles, helping you maintain good brushing and flossing habits, in addition to having your teeth evaluated and cleaned on a regular basis. Our dental team can recommend a number of options to make sure you have a bright, healthy smile for years to come.

Tooth Colored Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings offer strong, natural-looking treatment options for cavities and decay. Many years ago, the standard filling was composed of a metallic-looking material containing small amounts of mercury. These “amalgam” fillings were later found to pose certain health risks, in addition to giving a noticeable metal appearance to the teeth. Tooth-colored fillings, also known as white fillings or composite fillings, solve both of those problems. By using a safe composite resin material to fill the cavity, these treatments provide the treated tooth with solid support that is less likely to come loose, in addition to having a natural appearance that blends in with your teeth. Tooth-colored fillings can be performed in patients of all ages, and they can also be used to replace metal fillings you may have had for years.

Mercury Free Dentistry

We are proud to say that treatments at our practice involve materials that are completely mercury-free. Mercury has traditionally been used as a component of amalgam fillings, a very common treatment for cavities and decay. However, years of study found that even small amounts of mercury were potentially dangerous, in addition to requiring special disposal methods. By eliminating the use of mercury-based filling material, Champagne Smiles makes treatments safer for the patient and our environment.

Oral Cancer Screenings

One person every hour of every day is killed by oral cancer in the United States. In fact, oral cancer is now one of the deadliest forms of cancer in America; however, with early diagnosis and treatment, the chances of survival are significantly raised. The experienced dental team at Champagne Smiles utilize both visual oral cancer exams and the Identafi® oral cancer screening device to aid in early detection of this dangerous condition. The deep penetrating power of the Identafi® technology uses fluorescence and reflectance in order to enhance visualization of oral abnormalities that might not be seen with the naked eye. The Identafi® utilizes multi-spectrum technology with three distinct color wavelengths, which makes early visualization and identification of oral cancer and premalignant dysplasia possible. With precise and early diagnosis, Champagne Smiles can help you dramatically reduce the risks of this life-threatening condition.

Risks of developing oral cancer are much higher if you use tobacco products or consume alcohol. The human papilloma virus (HPV) is also being found in more and more cases of oral cancer. It’s very important to have oral cancer screenings at least once each year, and twice per year for those who may be at a higher risk.

Advanced Periodontal Care

Champagne Smiles offers a number of advanced periodontal care options that can help you improve issues caused by gum disease and renew the appearance of your gums. Our dentists can provide you with virtually painless treatment that results in less recovery time when compared with traditional methods. Champagne Smiles uses state-of-the-art technology called the Florida Probe for early detection of gum disease. The practice also offers Arestin®, an effective antibiotic medication that can help you effectively fight gum disease.

Sports Mouthguards

Dental Sports MouthguardsThe American Dental Association reports that over 200,000 sports injuries are prevented every year in the United States by utilizing sports mouthguards. Dental injuries are the most common type of orofacial injury sustained by children as well as high school and college athletes. Essentially, there are two different types of sports mouthguards. Stock mouthguards are your typical “boil & bite” variety found in sporting goods stores. While these do provide a very limited form of preventative protection, they are often categorized by athletes as uncomfortable and not being very conducive to speaking and breathing. Champagne Smiles offers Under Armour Armourbite performance mouthguards which are custom molded to your bite. The process takes only two visits: one visit to take your bite impression and the second visit to make sure it fits properly.

Sealants

Sealants are terrific preventive dentistry treatments designed to save your teeth from decay that starts in the deep grooves of your back molars. This is a simple and virtually painless procedure. The teeth are first cleaned and then a resin sealant is placed in the grooves of the back teeth. This durable sealant works to prevent bacteria from causing cavities in these grooves. Sealants can prevent severe damage from occurring along the back teeth, which can ultimately save you from more extensive treatment down the road.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy can often be necessary to save teeth that are suffering from severe decay and damage. When the pulp of a tooth becomes infected, it can become extremely painful and even lead to an abscess in the affected area. If left untreated, the diseased tissue can lead to serious health problems, including the risk of stroke, heart attack, and other conditions. Root canal therapy removes the pulp and sterilizes the nerves in the area to destroy the bacteria. The nerve chamber is then sealed with a strong filling material. Once the tooth has been treated, it will need to be fitted with a porcelain dental crown to give it strong support. This will also have an aesthetic benefit since the crown will be custom made to look like your natural tooth.

Dental Emergencies

In a dental emergency, the chief concern is relieving your pain. Dental emergencies will always be seen as soon as possible in an effort to ease your discomfort and perform the necessary treatment for the affected area. If you feel you are suffering a dental emergency, please call us at (732) 972-0918.

Sleep Apnea and Snoring Treatment

Sleep apnea is a condition that affects the way you breathe while sleeping – often leading to frequent, loud snoring. Specifically, this is instigated when the soft tissue in the back of your throat relaxes while you sleep, causing interruptions in breathing. These interruptions usually last between 10 and 20 seconds each and can occur up to hundreds of times a night. Sleep apnea is typically more prevalent in males, smokers, and the elderly; it can also cause a wide range of health issues, from sleep disturbance to more serious problems.

Silent Nite Oral Appliance for Sleep ApneaTo treat chronic snoring and sleep apnea patients, Champagne Smiles offers the Silent Nite oral appliance. Silent Night is a custom-made device, which is flexible, thin and completely comfortable for most patients. It positions the lower jaw in exactly the right way so snoring is greatly reduced or eliminated altogether.
